Connor Haiku
Quiet
Quiet in the car.
Now we’re at the restaurant.
It’s time to scream. Loud.
Get the Picture
Today’s portrait day.
You’ll get my big, charming smile…
In the car, home-bound.
Sleep
It’s 9:00. I’m awake.
Fully alert. I won’t sleep.
You can’t make me go…zzzzzzz.
Art
Pretty colors…orange,
Red, brown…I make art when I toss
Food on Mommy’s blouse.
Toys
Light-up toys. Big toys.
Toys that make sounds. Most amusing toy to me?
A spoon.
Kids
Wipe me and feed me.
Attend to all my needs…right now.
Being a kid rocks!
Author’s note: These poems were written during the first year of my son’s life. As can see, humor and poetry were great coping mechanisms during the stressful, sleepless days (and nights) of taking care of a baby.
